Pratiksha and Sanjeev Vidyarthi

Growing up in different regions of India, Pratiksha and Sanjeev studied together at the JJ school of Architecture in Mumbai. They moved to the city of Jaipur in 1991 seeking work, and getting married, shortly afterwards. Between the two, they taught in local architecture schools, designed a range of buildings and places, helped conceive and build professional institutions, and researched Jaipur’s spatial development in the post-independence period.  They have lived abroad intermittently since 2002—beginning with Leuven in Belgium and then at Ann Arbor and Chicago in the US—but continue to call Jaipur home. This architectural travel guide is special to them not only because it combines professional knowledges and experiential insights but also their personal memories and genuine affection for one of the most beautiful cities in the World.

Founded on the XVIII century by the Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh and planned according to Indian Vastu Shastra, in a grid system and uniformly rose pink buildings. Jaipur is a melting pot of Rajput, Mughal and several other cultures and is also the seat of a generous amount of vernacular tradition. Even also the Pink City has retained its unique flavor and old world charm; the visitor will also find a contemporary architecture infusing new forms with the legacy of the past and the spirit of place.
